Adventure Camp

Adventure Camp Dates: July 18-23, 2026, first night is at Collins Lake Ranch and then we travel together to camping locations.

Why Adventure Camp?
Are you a camper or staff member that loves the forest, dreams of exploring deeper into the woods, and wants to spend more free, unstructured time in nature? Here is your chance!

After a successful pilot program in 2025, MFC’s Adventure Camp is returning in 2026! This will again be a limited group of campers and staff with opportunities for more vigorous hiking, backpacking, and tent camping! You’ll get to challenge yourself and learn the following skills:

  • Setting up a basecamp
  • Personal and group leadership skills
  • Working together as a team to plan a two-night backpacking excursion into the Carson National Forest
  • Map reading and scouting hikes
  • Planning simple, nutritious meals that we will prepare and cook together
  • Campfire-building and maintenance
  • “Leave no trace” best practices
  • And so much more!

Of course, we will also play active games (think Flashlight! Camouflage! And more!), and take time for daily Quaker worship and community building in the beautiful mountain meadows! Stargazing and cloud watching will also be heartily encouraged.

Note: Priority registration will be given to returning campers, though we are open to newcomers ages 11-15 too on a case-by-case basis, depending on experience and enthusiasm!

Preparing for Adventure Camp

Campers who are interested in Adventure Camp should get ready for vigorous activity and a few days of tent/tarp camping! You don't need to be an expert hiker and backpacker, but some experience is helpful and spending most of the day on the trail should sound like a fun challenge.

Can you get in practice hiking with a weighted pack, enough to carry your personal gear (sleeping bag, two-bottles of water, two-changes of clothes, snacks) and at least a few group items? Do you have sturdy shoes that fit well and don't give you blisters? How do you feel about a few days without running water?

Please talk it over, and contact us with any questions or to chat.
